After continuous filed cases about violence against dalits, one brutal case has been added on Sunday morning in Rajkot, Gujarat. A 30- year old rag picker Mukesh Vaniya was cruelly thrashed by 5 men in Radadia Industries in Shapar area of Rajkot .
Mukesh along with his wife Jaya and a relative was reported to be collecting rags near the industry at about 6 a.m. – 9 a.m. on Sunday when he was held up by these 5 men. After accusing of theft they tied Mukesh and began beating him. Jaya claimed that she was also beaten up by the men but later was kicked off along with the relative.
Later the workers phoned Jaya and told her to take Mukesh from there. Jaya then took Mukesh to the Rajkot civil hospital where he was declared dead before arrival said Kritisinh Jadeja, assistant sub-inspector, shapar-veraval police station.
The identity of workers is yet to be discovered, but police detain 5 person for killing Mukesh.
The entire incidence has been recorded in a video tape that went viral. The video shows a belt like material through which Mukesh was tied up and a man beating him brutally. Police has filed the case and is waiting for the postmortem report for further steps.
This entire happening sparkled the sense of violence against the concerned community and hence the family members of Mukesh said that they will not collect the body until and unless the justice is served. Later because of the compensation promised along with the assurance of total unbiased justice by the social justice department, the family took the body for cremation to Limbdi, their native place.
Reacting to the news, dalit leader and Gujarat MLA, Jignesh Mevani, also shared the video on Twitter and said, “Mr. Mukesh Vaniya belonging to a scheduled caste was miserably thrashed and murdered by factory owners in Rajkot and his wife was brutally beaten up’.
