Supreme Court Says Petitions “Scandalous”, No Probe Into Judge Loya Death.


On Thursday, the Supreme Court said that they are rejecting petitions for an independent investigation in the case of death of Judge BH Loya. The Judge died in 2014 while a hearing session, the session was of the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case. “Need not be investigated,” the Supreme Court said today.

“These petitions are scandalous and amount to criminal contempt; we can’t doubt the statements of the judicial officers who were with Judge Loya”. Announcing the decision, a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra said.

The 48-year-old judge was deciding on murder charges against BJP chief Amit Shah when he died of a heart attack while attending a wedding in Maharashtra’s Nagpur in 2014. The judge who replaced him ruled there was not enough evidence against Mr. Shah to merit a trial. Five petitions calling for an inquiry were filed after questions were raised about the death.
