On Thursday, the Supreme Court said that they are rejecting petitions for an independent investigation in the case of death of Judge BH Loya. The Judge died in 2014 while a hearing session, the session was of the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case. “Need not be investigated,” the Supreme Court said today.
“These petitions are scandalous and amount to criminal contempt; we can’t doubt the statements of the judicial officers who were with Judge Loya”. Announcing the decision, a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra said.
The 48-year-old judge was deciding on murder charges against BJP chief Amit Shah when he died of a heart attack while attending a wedding in Maharashtra’s Nagpur in 2014. The judge who replaced him ruled there was not enough evidence against Mr. Shah to merit a trial. Five petitions calling for an inquiry were filed after questions were raised about the death.
