Bhaichung Bhutia the former Indian football captain announced his decision to quit the Trinamool Congress today.
The footballer failed contested elections two times as a Trinamool Congress candidate, took to social media to announce his decision.

Bhutia had unsuccessful in contesting the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Darjeeling And also the 2016 West Bengal Assembly elections from Siliguri.
The Trinamool Congress(TMC) declined to comment on Bhutia resigning from the party.
However, sources told that Bhutia had informed the TMC about his decision one month ago as he was no longer interested in being associated with any political party.
Bhutia is currently on a holiday with family in Philippines and Thailand. He had expressed his grief about 12 lives lost during the agitation June – September last year.
D B Chauhan, BJP’s Sikkim state committee president, commented, “I am in touch with Bhutia. As we are nationalists, we too want him to be a part of the BJP in Sikkim.”
SKM’s Bikash Basnet from opposition said the party will be in touch with Bhutia. “If he wants to join the party, we would all be very happy. It would be a proud moment for us. He is an asset of Sikkim and we will give him due respect.” the party won 10/32 seats in the Himalayan state in 2014 polls.
Ruling party Sikkim democratic front SDF also wants him.
