Ajay Pal Lamba Senior Rajasthan police officer whose investigation into the allegations of rape against self-styled godman Asaram led to his conviction by Jodhpur court today hailed the verdict. Asaram was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Jodhpur Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Court which sent two others to jail for 20 years.

Lamba said in a Facebook post soon after the verdict was announced by Judge Madhusudhan Sharma of the court of SC/ST cases, “Justice delivered in Asaram Bapu case with the conviction of accused Asaram in a case of sexual assault on a minor girl during the night of Independence day of 2013. Judgment is a landmark in criminal jurisprudence in the country. It is heartening to witness that if the law of land is implemented impartially, then even weakest can afford to take on the mights of a most influential person like Asaram,”
The police officer also congratulated his team for taking logical conclusion to the case.
He said, “Kudos to the whole team which was associated with me in taking this case to its logical conclusion in the most efficient and professional manner despite all odds,”
Lamba had received more than 2,000 threatening letters and hundreds of phone calls during the course of the investigation in the rape case.
Lamba, now the superintendent of police (anti-corruption bureau) in Udaipur, said “Thanks to colleagues, seniors and all members of the team whose support meant a lot to me in the entire phase of this case. My gratitude to all well wishers who stand for the cause, directly or indirectly by contributing in own ways. Thanks to one and all. God bless the victim and family,”
