A total of 457 Indian prisoners, including 399 fishermen, are locked in various jails of Pakistan. The Pakistan Foreign Ministry has given their list to the High Commission of India on Monday. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry says that on May 21, 2008, the list of prisoners has been shared under the provisions of the Consular Access Agreement between Pakistan and India.
Under this agreement, both the countries have to submit their list of prisoners lodged in their respective jails twice a year, one in January and one in July to the neighboring country. According to the list, Pakistan has handed over the list of 457 Indian prisoners lodged in the jails of Islamabad to the High Commission of Islamabad based in India. There are 58 general prisoners and 399 fishermen. Pakistan has also said that it will release 146 fishermen on January 8.
